Marian Rivera is Marian Gracia Rivera in real life. She was born on August 12, 1984 in Madrid, Spain. Her parents (Spanish father and a Filipina mother) separated when Marian was only 2 years old and left with her mother's custody.

Marian starts her TV career in an afternoon soap opera undr TAPE Inc. and GMA Network. She was paired with Oyo Boy Sotto in three GMA-7 afternoon soaps namely "Kung Mamahalin Mo Lang Ako", "Agawin Mo Man ang Lahat" and "Pinakamamahal". She was then casted in "Muli" where Marian portrayed as the wife of Alfred Vargas. Marian was also included in "Super Twins" under the shadows of Nadine Samonte and Jennylyn Mercado.

But Marian Rivera's biggest break was when GMA-7 aired the local remake of "Marimar", a Mexican soap opera starred by Thalia. It can be noted that Marian was not handily handpicked by GMA executives. She undergone stages of auditions together with some big stars of GMA and from the other networks. Some know stars who joined the auditions were Nadine Samonte, Katrina Halili, Jennylyn Mercado, Karylle, Jewel Mische and Bianca King.

Marian was only 11 years old when the original "Marimar" was shown in Phlippine TV. So she searched in the internet about the role so she could at least impersonate Thalia in the audition. Marian did not fail. She bested all other aspirants even though at that time their names are "bigger" than Marian.

The premiere of Marimar on August 2007 received a very high rating of 36.6% besting all shows in the primetime. The show was also a constant top rater during its airtime. It even registered an all-time high of 52.6% inthe ratings in its finale. It was also in "Marimar" where the Marian Rivera - Dingdong Dantes tandem was born.

The success of "Marimar" was followed by "Dyesebel", a fantaserye where Marian played the role of a mermaid under the ocean. The show also generated a huge followers among the Filipino audience, especially in Metro Manila where it was a constant no.1 in the TV ratings. This also marked the second tandem of Marian and Dingdong in TV.

Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera's third drama together was a Carlo J. Caparas classic "Ang Babaeng hinugot Sa Aking Tadyang". The show however didn't meet the expectations of the producers. It didn't get a huge following like their previous projects (Marimar and Dyesebel). Due to the poor showing of "Tadyang", Marian and Dingdong are temporarily separated in TV. marian is going to make "Darna" while Dingdong is goign to work in another project.

As of this writing, Marian has already taped some scenes in the the upcoming "Darna" fantaserye. It can also be noted that GMA-7 previously produced the same fantaserye (Darna) topbilled by Angel Locsin who transferred to ABS-CBN. Darna is going to premiere on August, 2009.

In movies, Marian was first seen in "Enteng Kabisote 2: Okay Ka Fairy Ko, the Legend Continues" with Vic Sotto. this was followed by "Pamahiin", "Bahay Kubo" and "Desperadas" under Regal Entertainment.

Marian Rivera's biggest break in movies was "My Best Friend's Girlfriend" where she was paired with Richard Gutierrez. The movie made it to the box office that earned them the distinction as Valentine Box Office King and Queen (the movie premiered on Valentine's Day). Marian also starred in "One True Love" with Dingdong Dantes, then in the "Nieves" episode of "Shake, Rattle & Roll X" which made it to the Metro Manila Film festival as an official entry. She also worked with Ogie Alcasid in the sequel "Desperadas 2".

In the later part of 2009, Marian is scheduled to do a movie with newcomer Carla Abellana entitled "The Other Man" and "Nieves: The Engkanto Slayer" taken from her episode in "Shake, Rattle & Roll X".

Marian also released two albums titled "Marian Rivera Dance Hits" and "Retro Crazy" and just recently, she released her first single "Sabay-Sabay Tayo".

Darna

Darna premiered in Philippine TV on August 10, 2009 in GMA Network's telebabad timeslot. The pilot episode posted a TV rating of 44% among Mega Manila household according to AGB Nielsen. It even posted a higher rating on August 18 with a viewership share of 47% when Narda became Darna for the first time. It is also averaging at least 40% in its daily rating share.

Darna also performs very well in the National ratings game. It's initial episode marked 35.6% beating all of its competitors. It is however a rolloer coaster game in teh national ratings since its competitors bounced back after that. But Darna was consistent in the top 5 spots since then.
